Thanatos of Funk
180g - Import LP
Originally released in 1985, this highly sought after first album was a milestone in Japan's underground music and electro funk/early hip hop history. A love letter to counter culture, the DIY album is full of drum machines & synthesizers mixed with killer shamisen & guitar. Minoru ‘Hoodoo’ Fushimi’s debut album, Thanatos Of Funk, is being reissued on vinyl for the first time, courtesy of 180g.
Fushimi produced and recorded the album himself across 1985, piecing it together in studio sessions outside of his day job as a high-school teacher.
Across Thanatos Of Funk, he combines electro funk with synths, drum machines, and hip-hop elements. Now returning to vinyl for the first time since its original release, 180g’s reissue includes Fushimi’s original hand-written comic.
