Dorsey's 1970 album features the writing and producing skills of the great Allen Toussaint, and recorded at the Jazz City Studios in New Orleans, which was Cosimo Matassa's home base, and also home to Toussaint and his protegees, The Meters, The Neville Brothers, etc, until it closed in 1978, and Toussaint moved to his Sea-Saint Recordings, also in New Orleans. The backing band on Yes We Can features members of The Meters. While not initially a commercial success, many of the songs have been covered with great success; Pointer Sisters, Robert Palmer, Elvis Costello, among others. It has been described as the funkiest album ever! Can't argue with that...
