Bee Gees
Main Course
Capitol / Universal re-issue LP

Main Course, released in 1975 for the RSO Records label, and their last album to be released by Atlantic Records in the US under its distribution deal with Robert Stigwood. This album marked a great change for the Bee Gees as it was their first album to include mostly R&B, soul and Funk-influenced songs, and created the model for their output through the rest of the 1970s. It rejuvenated the group's career and public image, particularly in the US, after the commercial disappointment of their preceding few albums. It was the group's thirteenth album (eleventh worldwide). Main Course was the first album to feature keyboardist Blue Weaver. The album cover with the band's new logo designed by US artist Drew Sturzan made its first appearance here. A large credit for the success of their "new" sound must be given to Atlantic house producer Arif Mardin, who encouraged them to pursue their new funky sound further. Unfortunately, with the terms of the RSO distribution switching to Polydor, Mardin was unavailable for further collaborations. However, the boys were more than prepared to take it on on their own after their astronomical success, and rose to god-like heights on their subsequent LPs. But this was the one that changed the perception of the band in the minds of the listening public. (the previous LP, "Mr. Natural", was the first with Mardin and though it was not as commercially successful, was a very fine precursor to Main Course - seek it out if you're a fan)
