Live at Montreux
Inner City Records 1039 - re-issue 2 LP set in a thick gatefold jacket
Live at Montreux is an album by Sun Ra recorded in the summer of 1976 at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland under the billing Sun Ra and his Intergalactic Cosmo Arkestra. It was originally issued in 1977 on the Saturn label, with hand-drawn covers and reissued in 1978 on the Inner City label, with new artwork and song titles and musicians credited. Musicians include; Danny Davis, Marshall Allen, John Gilmore, Pat Patrick, Ahmed Abdullah, June Tyson, Elo Omo and others. This was around the time that Mr Ra started embracing his early arranging roots and paying homage to his peers / contemporaries, thus the side-long Ellington tune. Live shows after this started showing more of those roots.
