Lalo Schifrin - Dirty Harry - Soundtrack

Lalo Schifrin
Dirty Harry
Aleph 052 - 180g LP

Lalo Schifrin's score for Don Siegel's 1971 film Dirty Harry helped define the sound of the decade's urban action cinema. Driving jazz-funk, percussion and tense orchestral writing give Harry Callahan's San Francisco a hard physical pulse, while the wordless, ghostly chorale associated with Scorpio supplies an unnerving psychological counterweight.
Schifrin composed and conducted the score, recorded at Warner Bros. Studios in October 1971. Donna Schifrin served as executive producer, Theresa E. Schifrin directed and designed the package, and Artur Trzebny supplied the cover and back illustrations. The complete program traces the film from its prologue and main title through the Scorpio sequences, stadium climax and end titles, preserving both the muscular ensemble writing and the unsettling detail of its quieter cues.
The 180-gram black-vinyl edition uses the original session masters remixed for stereo by Michael Matessino, edited and mastered by Daniel Hersch and cut for vinyl at Well Made Music. It includes all music recorded for the film plus the original version of "The Swimming Pool"/"Scorpio's View" and the bonus cue "Dirty Harry's Creed."
