John Coltrane
A Love Supreme: Live in Seattle
Impulse B0034291-01 - 2 LP set
A Love Supreme: Live in Seattle was recorded on October 2, 1965 at the Seattle jazz club, The Penthouse, by saxophonist / fan, Joe Brazil. The tapes were found five years after his death in October of 2008 by saxophonist Steve Griggs. It is one of only two recorded live performances of Coltrane's classic 1965 album, A Love Supreme. Despite it being a from a private recording, the sound quality is very good. The left microphone is quite close to Jones, and the drums are louder than anything else on the record, but if you're wired to hear the quartet in a certain way, that's not a downside. Coltrane's solos throughout are blistering. A must have for Coltrane fans. Band is the classic quartet of McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, & Elvin Jones, PLUS Pharoah Sanders!!
