1971 - Joe Farrell had been playing and recording as part of Elvin Jones' piano-less trio, and Chick Corea had been on hiatus from Miles's band where he worked with Brazilian percussionist Airto Moreira and his wife, Flora Purim. When it was time to form Chick's first incarnation of Return to Forever in the fall of 1971, he used Moreira, Purim, and Joe Farrell. Meanwhile, Farrell was recording his CTI session with Elvin, Airto, and Chick. Things were quite incestuous then. Buster Williams rounds out the band on bass. It was recorded at Van Gelder Studios.
