Formed in Los Angeles in 2001, four-piece Audioslave consisted of Soundgarden lead singer/guitarist Chris Cornell, with Rage Against the Machine members Tom Morello (lead guitar), Tim Commerford (bass), and Brad Wilk (drums). Initially seen merely as a hybrid of the two groups whose members made up the new act, soon they had established a separate identity. Their self-titled debut came out in November 2002 and went on to be certified a triple platinum seller. The band toured extensively worldwide in 2003, gaining positive reviews for their live performances, including, notably, at the revived Lollapalooza tour. Their shows on the tour were so well received by readers of Metal Edge that they won the magazine's 2003 Readers' Choice Award for Favourite Lollapalooza Band . In June 2003 they played at the Hultsfred Festival in Sweden where they put on a quite stunning show which was recorded for local FM Radio Transmission. Featuring tracks from their first record, plus a few rarities and a fine selection of cover versions - including The Clash s White Riot and The White Stripes Seven Nation Army - the audience were left screaming for more.
