The Lebanese-Assyrian diva is the other great star of Middle Eastern music, alongside Oum Kalhoum. But unlike the Egyptian legend, who embodies centuries of tradition, Fairuz masterfully fuses heritage with modernity, adorning her Byzantine melodies with elements from the West - jazz, opera and Latin music.
