Duke Ellington - Duke Ellington & John Coltrane - 180g [Verve Acoustic Sounds series]

The meeting of the musical geniuses was originally released on the Impulse label in 1963. It contains a mostly Ellington / Strayhorn program with one Coltrane composition (Big Nick). The label was in a campaign to establish Coltrane as a mainstream player with this, the Ballads, and the Coltrane / Johnny Hartman albums. They were successful. The band includes Sam Woodyard, Aaron Bell, Jimmy Garrison & Elvin Jones.
