Other Sounds is Yusef Lateef's offering from 1957 on the New Jazz label. The performances suggest an influence from the East and Arabic musics, in Lateef's use of finger cymbols, chanting, and scales. He also plays the Argol; an Indian reed flute which has a timbre suggesting a primitive English horn, the earth-board is a wooden board strung with three wiresl; the Rebob a one-stringed member of the violin family. (from Ira Gitler's liner notes) Joining the former Bill Evans (Lateef's birth name) is Wilber Harden, Hugh Lawson, Ernie Farrow, and Oliver Jackson.
