The Quest was recorded in Milan on March 12-13, 1976, and features bandmates Dave Holland and Barry Altschul. The recording took place the day after the triumphant reception RIvers received at the 8th Bergamo Jazz Festival and includes the same four-part Suite "The Quest" played at that festival. The album was originally released on the Italian label, Red Records.
