Less well known than Etta James or Billie Holiday, Etta Jones (1928-2001) was a jazz singer whose first album for the Prestige label remains her biggest success. She delivers a cool, mellow, fundamentally laid-back jazz, carried by her rich expressive, and deeply sensual voice. The title track brought her close to the top of the charts and earned her a gold record - an auspicious beginning to a long career that deserves to be rediscovered and appreciated for its true merit.
