Sick Boi is the debut indie mixtape from writer, comedian, actor, & rapper, Donald Glover (a.k.a Childish Gambino), released June 5, 2008, before any major works were released.
This is widely considered more of a demo tape than an actual mixtape. Donald wanted to play a character on the mixtape. He was sick while making the project so he used that as the voice of his character, Sick Boi:
In Sick Boi, I was trying to play into something, but turn it on its head, like ‘Oh, I sound like you other rappers, but my voice is high, and it sorta sounds like my nose is clogged.’ It was me messing around with a lot of that.
Culdesac is the fifth mixtape by American rapper Childish Gambino, originally released July 3, 2010. The entire mixtape was self-produced with assistance from Community composer, Ludwig G
öransson. Chris Lee of the Los Angeles Times praised the album, saying: "The album's alterna-rock-augmented beats and emo-level of emotional rawness, are shot through with surprisingly legitimate R&B vocals also sung by Glover, making 'Culdesac' an unexpected delight: a sung-rapped cri de coeur that's as accomplished as any indie hip-hop released this year.
