‘Powerslave’ saw Iron Maiden embark on the most ambitious tour of their storied career. The band played a staggering 187 shows in 331 days including the historical four nights at Long Beach Arena that resulted in the ‘Live After Death’ album. Leading the album is one of the best one-two punches in heavy metal with the speedy “Aces High” followed by the doomsday focus of “2 Minutes to Midnight.” Bookending these two tracks are “Powerslave,” dripping with Egyptian mysticism and the epic “Rime of the Ancient Mariner.” Sandwiched between these Maiden anthems are underrated gems like “Back in the Village” and the last instrumental the band would write, “Losfer Words (Big ‘Orra).”
